Green Day: Rock Band Quick Review

Hey guys, today was the release day of Green Day: Rock Band, and if you didn’t know, Green Day is probably one of my favorite bands ever. I have been anticipating Green Day: Rock Band ever since I got my hands on Rock Band 2. My last Rock Band review was talking about how I play on Medium, well its been a while since then and I can play on Expert on basically every song except those Impossible Teir songs, those are really tough. But anyway, I got my hands on Green Day: Rock Band today, and I thought I would write a quick review on it. I have yet to explore everything about Green Day: Rock Band, but it is very similar in layout as Rock Band 2 is. You have your Local Play (where you play with people in the same room, i.e. Guitar, Bass, Drums, Mic) and then your Online Play (where you can obviously play with people Online). I have only done the Local Play so far and I have only played by myself, but like I said, I will explore Online Play later. But I am almost sure that Online Play will be just like that of Rock Band 2. So I played Local Play under the Quick Play option where you can just play a song. When I got to the song list, there were several songs there. I believe there are about 47 songs. I started out playing Wake Me Up When September Ends which is under the first Tier, easy song. I was surprised how good I did; I gold starred it. And right off the bat I enjoyed the song: it was difficult, but fun at the same time. The layout on the actual song was similar to the first Rock Band with some Rock Band 2 touches. You have the same exact system, so nothing to worry about. Now the entire layout of the game is set to a Green Day theme, basically from the 21st Century Breakdown album. I also really enjoy the sound effects! In the background you have sounds of bombs dropping and all kinds of warfare sounds. Really cool stuff. Another thing I like (although I don’t really need it) is the fact you can switch from Righty Mode to Lefty Mode at the same screen you choose your difficulty. For the Wii you just press the “-” button and you go right to Lefty Mode. Much nicer for you Lefties who have to always pause and choose Lefty Mode, and then when a Righty gets back on, you always forget to pause it back and rechange it to Righty Mode. Much more convenient. Also what I liked it is when you pause it, it does the same thing as it does in Guitar Hero: it gives you a 3 second timer until the game restarts. Much more convenient also. Now Career Mode is interesting, but I haven’t gotten too far in it. You now have the chance to win things called CREDS (probably from Credits? Just a guess) and you get one for 3 starring a song, and another one for 5 starring a song. Earning these CREDS unlocks new challenges, which I have not gotten to yet although I did unlock one Challenge. And as for the Songs, I find them to be extremely difficult. This game is full of three note combos making for a nice challenge (remember this is from an Expert difficulty point-of-view), and it is also full of Green-Orange Fret Combos, which really make a person stretch their fingers. Overall the songs make you move your fingers extremely fast along the frets. One last thing I also noticed is how it seems you can use the mic with more than one person; up to three people it appears! But I have yet to try this out, so don’t quote me on it. So in conclusion, I think it is well worth the $49.99 to go ahead and buy this game. It is very fun, and I find all the songs to be very difficult. Buy this, especially if you love Green Day!

P.S.: The Minish Cap Walkthrough is about 80% Complete! I’m fixing to get to the Cloud Tops :) Should be out soon!

Progress Report & HELP WANTED

Hello everyone, I was just posting a new post for two main points: 1)To give a report on the progress of the Minish Cap walkthrough, and 2)To ask for assisstance on adding Zelda content to the website.

1)First off I just wanted to let everyone know that the Minish Cap Walkthrough is coming along smoothly. I just completed the Fortress of Winds and so far it is 100% complete. And it should be that way as well when I finish the walkthrough. As of now it is all text, but after the all text is done, I will post it on the site and then work on adding screenshots, maps, and sprites. So I plan on having the all text part done by the end of this month. As of now, everything is going really good.

2)The next thing I want to talk about is help on the Zelda content for this site. Anyone out there who would like to post something for the site that relates to Zelda content, that would be much appreciated. I am a one-man writer as of now and there are several Zelda games and several sections that could use content. As many of you know, the Zelda sections are lacking as it does take me a long time to make content for the games. Here are the main areas I could use your help: ZELDA I, ZELDA II, ORACLE OF AGES/SEASONS, FOUR SWORDS, FOUR SWORDS ADVENTURES, and maybe even some MAJORA’S MASK. If you can help elsewhere please feel free to let me know. If you can help write content please email me at my NEW email: triforcetrevgob@yahoo.com. Please email me here and let me know what you are willing to do to help out. I will take anything, but the games I mentioned above are my weaknesses. I will without a doubt give you all the credit to your content and I will take none of your credit from you. Please let me know if you are willing to help out. Thanks!

One more thing I do want to mention quickly…the E3, Electronic Entertainment Expo, is coming soon! In fact it is coming June 15-17! And a lot of new stuff is supposed to be coming out about the new Zelda Wii game, so as soon as I get updates from E3 and Zelda Wii, I will definitely tell everyone. Hopefully the game will be named! So keep looking out for info about Zelda Wii coming soon!

I’m Baaaaaack!

Hey guys, TriforceTrev here for once in ages. With school and all I have not been able to make many posts as you probably can tell. School is coming to an end for this year and I will once again be working on many more projects for Zelda content. I am currently half way through a non-edited and text-only walkthrough for the Minish Cap. It should be complete rather quickly, then I will add pictures and screenshots and many other additions to the full and complete Minish Cap Walkthrough. So everyone I am back to working on content and you should see more posts from me to come!

What’s WoW?

World of Warcraft

This game without a doubt, might be one of the most known and most played games to ever be created. I ventured into this game towards the end of 2008 and kept without it off/on for about a year. I immediately enjoyed the community with guilds, the leveling system, Achievment points, and the class/race selection. It was an immediate favorite for me, which explains why currently 12million worldwide play this game.

The Upside

Great game, very in depth lore with books, great graphics… That being said, I would easily make this one of my personal favorite games. I enjoyed the competition in the game, and loved the community on my realm. I liked the fact you could key bind moves to anything on your keyboard and I also enjoyed how addons can be used to help better oneself’s ability to do better.

The Downside

The downside is the prices that you have to spend and the amount of memory the game itself takes. After you spend around 60-70 dollars on all the expansions and the original game, you have to turn around and pay 15 dollars a month. (First month free) This was quite an issue for me because I was not always willing to dish out for it. So now that you have the game, you get to wait while around 2 gigs downloads onto your computer from the game.

The Final Grade

A for graphics and gamplay, B- for the community (can become annoying)

D- for money spent

This game is well worth it if you do not mind waiting most of your first day to download, or if your rich enough to afford a months subscription. Also as a “beware” sign, people on the realms that you play on can be very explicit towards yourself or others.

Spirit Tracks Review by TriforceTrev

Hey guys! It’s Garrett! Yeah, I know I’m on Trevor’s account. He wasn’t able to post this himself, but he did email me his review of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. I haven’t played it yet myself, but his writing is quality stuff as always. Because of the pictures he used I had to make it a .pdf file similar to his walkthroughs, so you can read it here:

My First Five Hours of Final Fantasy VIII

If you’ve looked at the layout of the site since about the day after its launch, you probably came to the realization that I am a Final Fantasy fan. Well, I am, but Final Fantasy VII is the only game of the series I’ve actually beaten. Between randomly buying them as a child and getting four or five of them from a friend last year, I have FF1 and 5-9, but of the ones I’ve tried I’ve just stopped because of something. In Final Fantasy 1 it was the grind that killed me. In IX it was that, at the time, I sucked at everything not named Pokemon that remotely resembled an RPG. I was sick today and couldn’t really do much, so I plugged up my PS2 and played about five hours of Final Fantasy VIII. I actually knew a lot about the game from the start because of Noah Antwiler’s hilarious review of the game, but I was a little unprepared for the game when I actually started playing.

So what did I do during these first five hours, and why am I writing an entire blog post about it? I spent almost the entire time drawing magic. For those that haven’t played the game, FFVIII differs from other Final Fantasy game in that the magic system is vastly different. Rather than buying new magic spells and using an MP bar as is the norm, you instead must “draw” magic. You can have up to 100 draws of each magic spell, and can cast them without fear of depleting a meter. How can you get these? One way is to fight wild monsters and cast “Draw”, getting 2-7 or so draws per turn. Another, much more impacting way early on, is to refine cards and items into draws.

This doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it can be because of the junction system. You are able to “Junction” a summon you have to a particular stat, and then junction spells you have drawn to that stat. How much the stat improves is based largely on how many draws you have of it, meaning that, to have great stats, you need to draw lots of magic. Fortunately, since you can crank up the battle speed, drawing magic from monsters is, at most, annoying. The really annoying part is the card battle portion.

Why? Well, although drawing magic from monsters is fairly easy, it won’t ensure your character the greatest stats. The only real way to do that without being late in the game is through the game’s card minigame Triple Triad. You are able to refine cards you win in Triple Triad into items, which you can then refine into sometimes very powerful draws of spells. If you know what you’re doing, you can have an ample supply of some of the most powerful magic very early on. The problem? It takes a seriously freaking long time. Games of Triple Triad usually don’t take more than two minutes a piece, and of your opponents arsenal of cards, one of those may be able to be refined into, say, 20 Blizzaga spells, the most powerful type of Ice spell. To have the biggest benefit from them, you would have to get five of those cards. Out of every game, you will win, at most, five pre-set cards. I don’t know how many cards each opponent has, but out of the three cards I needed, getting five of each took me at least two to three hours.

Of course, this whole ordeal is entirely optional, but in an RPG, I tend to take advantage of all the help I can get, and hesitate missing any sidequests. So after a grueling five hours of playing cards and getting that annoying Triple Triad theme stuck in my head permanently, I’m finally ready to truly start the game. I don’t really mind it, as long as this work was actually worth it, but it was definitely time consuming.

News and Updates 9/9/09

You may have noticed a lack of content recently. Between school and there just not being that much to write about recently, you may be able to see why. Just so people don’t get the idea the site is dead, here’s what I have coming up.

Guitar Hero 5 Review

The Beatles: Rock Band Review

A new blog about… something. Not sure what yet.

Oh, and I unfortunately have to say that, for now, TreforceTrevor cannot write for the site. He is very much still a part of it, but he is on hiatus for a while. As soon as he can, he will be writing again.
