The Speed Gamers Final Fantasy Marathon

Sadly I don’t really have time to actually write an article about it, but it is time for The Speed Gamers’ week long Final Fantasy marathon for Autism. Watch it. It’ll be the most entertaining time you can spend while bored. Donate. It’s for a great cause. Tell your friends.

Rock Band Pepsi DLC Promotion

Rock Band 2 is an amazing game, and the fact that there are over 700 songs available with the number rising every week is incredible. Sadly, though it is to be expected that songs would cost more to play in Rock Band than to buy normally, $2 a song is, in many eyes, kinda expensive. But what if you could download them for only $1 a song and get a free 20oz Pepsi with it?

There is a promotional with Pepsi and Rock Band until July 28, in which 5,000 winners a day win a free Rock Band DLC song by entering codes on specially marked bottle caps on the Pepsi website. It may sound like a waste of money unless you happen to be parched at a 7-11, as 5,000 winners a day isn’t much, but apparently it’s more than enough as it seems there aren’t 5,000 players each day. Every code except a very rare few doesn’t win a track. Out of 10 codes I’ve used, I’ve won 10 songs. Not every song is available, but many great ones are. It’s pretty much a guarantee you’ll find something good.

So yeah… I haven’t updated the site in a while because I’ve actually played more Rock Band than anything lately. I’ll try to be better about updates.

Last is Rock Band 2. I know you are probably thinking: “What? Rock Band 2? Stick to Zelda!” Well I play Rock Band 2 a LOT on Guitar and I still am not as good as Garrett. I only play on Medium. Yes, yes I know. Well I can get 5 Stars on every Medium song in the game so I decided to start the World Tour a while back. I have since made it to the very end and done everything in the World Tour. Yesterday I decided to start the Endless Setlist 2. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is all 84 songs in a row on a single setlist. Nonstop. Last night I managed to get through half of the songs on Medium 5 stars no problem (42 of 84). I did encounter one little problem. My brother had a friend over that night and when I paused the game for a break, I kept the Wii running and I turned the TV off. My brother’s friend decided he wanted to play Super Smash Bros. Brawl. So he presses the “Eject” button on the Wii and puts in Brawl. Luckily the “Power” button was never pressed! They turn the TV on and it says: “Please insert a Rock Band 2 disc”. They then realize I was playing Rock Band 2. So they left Brawl in. When I came back to play, Rock Band 2 froze and I almost went nuts. I ejected the disc and found Brawl in it. I then put Rock Band 2 back in the Wii and lo and behold everything was fine! I was so relieved. I’m glad it left off where it started or my brother would be dead. Anyway, I am at my grandmas right now for July 4th and I’m 63 of 84 songs done, so my Wii is back at home still running! I will finish when I get home! Thought that was a little interesting story that I would like to share with everyone.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe July the 4th! God bless America, the best country on Earth!

Hey guys. ‘Tis Garrett here. I’m a huge grammar nazi, so I fixed some grammar mistakes for Trevor. It’s almost 4AM and I’m about to pass out, so if I missed a couple I’m sorry. Also, I’m not very good at Rock Band. I play on Expert, but even if I can beat Rock Band 2’s songs I’m no where close to 5 starring the later tiers. And I must disagree with America being the best country on Earth. That title belongs to Canada. Because they have Rush. JK

I Think I’m Back Into Pokemon - An Epic Battle Against a Speed Gamer

Well, Sunday night, I was exhausted. Friday and Saturday night, I stayed up very late watching The Speed Gamers’ marathon, and I told myself I would be going to bed early that night for once soon after Speed Gamer Rust came on at 1AM. Well, 1AM came and passed. As did 2AM and 3AM. At 4AM, I realized how late it was and was ready to exit out of Firefox and try to get a little sleep at the very least. Just about the time I was getting ready to type my goodbye message in the chat, Rust began to battle people over Wi-Fi in Pokemon D/P. I couldn’t resist. I had to battle Rust. I blew the dust off of my Diamond cartridge, booted it up, and searched my in-game PC for my long-forgotten strongest Pokemon. After a little browsing through my boxes, I found my six: my favorite Pokemon, my level 100 EV-trained Dragonite; my EV-trained level 90 Dusknoir; my level 48 Luxray; my level 49 Torterra; my level 47 Mismagius; and finally, my level 7 Pachirisu I nicknamed “Hi Rust :D”

It took a couple of hours of watching others duel Rust, but after they were finished it was my turn. I’d like to say it was an epic struggle before my dominating him in the end, but no such luck. Every Pokemon’s level was rounded to 50. My Dragonite was off to a great start; I dragon danced a couple of times, knocked out half of his newly-switched-to Empoleon’s health with dragon claw, and then got 1HKO’d by his ice beam. I could say that he got lucky, but I should’ve predicted his Empoleon’s ice beam. Worse, I could’ve easily 1HKO’d his Empoleon with an Earthquake had I remembered it was a dual-type. In my defence, I haven’t kept up with the D/P generation nearly as much as pre-D/P, but I should’ve at least had the starters’ types down.

From there, I was pretty much destroyed systematically by his Pokemon until finally dying at the hands of his shiny EV-trained Charizard. I didn’t even get a chance to kill any of his Pokemon. Me playing Pokemon Diamond against a Speed Gamer at 6AM with a couple hundred people watching was, however, very much worth it, even if I couldn’t have suffered a worse loss statistically. And so, I went to bed to get 4 hours sleep, as the sun was rising ironically. Maybe one day I can get a rematch against Rust. Maybe...

The Speed Gamers’s Metal Gear Marathon (and some future updates planned)

Okay, so my original plan was to delay this post until after my review of Metal Gear Solid 3, but at this point it’s going to be a challenge to just beat the game before the marathon, much less review it.

In my last post on The Speed Gamers, I talked about The Speed Gamers, how I found them, and discussed the upcoming Earthbound marathon. The Speed Gamers are a group of awesome people that speed run games for charity. This will be their 11th marathon, and they have raised over $32,000 total. This upcoming marathon will not be for charity because their last marathon for Susan G. Komen was only a month ago.

The marathon will be for the Metal Gear series, hence why I’ve been raving so much about it lately. It begins June 19, and will last for 72 hours as their marathons usually do. If you’ve ever watched one of their marathons, you have likely been a victim of lack of sleep, internet addiction, and post-marathon depression. I honestly cannot think of a better way to spend 72 hours than with The Speed Gamers. For more info on the marathon, including a list of games they will be playing, you can check out their website.

As I did last marathon, this will be my last post on the site until the end of the marathon. I will also be asking Trevor not to post anything else until the end of the marathon as well. When it is finished, you can expect no less than five (!) new Minish Cap guides from him, as well as my reviews of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Prototype, and possibly Guitar Hero Smash Hits.

So yeah, that’s about it. Watch the marathon.

Guitar Hero/Rock Band Blowout Sale

As a pretty big fan of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, I noticed this today on Gamestop.com, ironically, while looking for a new guitar:

http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/umbs/

Pretty good deal. I just ordered the Aerosmith bundle. I’m not a huge Aerosmith fan, but it’s cheaper than a guitar normally is by itself. You’d think these guitars would last longer since they were obviously made to go up to Expert, but my World Tour guitar’s up-strum broke a couple of months ago while playing Master of Puppets on Guitar Hero Metallica on Expert.
